What to know before importing your first report.
From the App Privacy Report, a native iOS feature (Settings › Privacy & Security). You export it yourself as an .ndjson file, then open it in Vigil.
No — and no third-party app can. iOS doesn't let an app query other apps' permissions. The exported privacy report is the only reliable source available to users.
It starts at 100 and loses points based on the categories of access used (camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos), access that happened at night, and the number of tracking domains contacted.
No. All analysis happens on the iPhone. The only possible network request is the compromised-password check, done with k-anonymity against Have I Been Pwned.
A sensitive access (camera, microphone, location…) that happened between midnight and 6am — often a sign of activity the user never sees.
Vigil sends a weekly reminder. iOS keeps regenerating its report, so the more recent the export, the more accurate the analysis.
No, they're optional extras. The app works fully when opened manually.
